If you are waiting for a sign

Just earlier in 2019, I was contemplating a time for change.  I walked into this beautiful space at a very private retreat – not a soul around – and this message sat on a mantle.

IF YOU ARE WAITING FOR A SIGN THIS IS IT

I gave a belly laugh . . . and then got goosebumps. My shoulders relaxed. I lifted up and breathed.

Then I knew. I knew something else was meant to be. Of course, I was having these internal nudges for a long, long time, but had ignored them. For years I have had promptings, inspiration and excitement about my purpose and gifts and ways to share insights; ways that didn’t fit inside the cages that people or systems either consciously or unconsciously build around others.

If we have such inspirations, we ignore them at our own peril.

“Inspiration is the way we receive soul-based promptings into our mind. Inspiration is always very personal and directive. . . . It is a persistent thought . . . the next step you have to take in a soul-centered activity. It will keep prompting you to take action until you do something about it. The purpose of inspiration is to support you in fulfilling your soul purpose.” (Richard Barrett, Barrett Values Centre.)

Barrett says consequences of ignoring inspiration are depression and melancholy which results from our misalignment with this soul driven inspiration. I had to take the leap. So grateful I did. I started my consulting business because I want to support and inspire people to bring out the best in themselves and others and to believe in possibility and a higher purpose.

I quit my job to “free my heat of ballast so that the compass of my soul might direct me toward territories of spirit where I will discover more of my hidden life” (adapted from John Donahue, For the Traveler).

It’s difficult because sometimes we can only see the limits of the frames we are standing in, but if we expand our gaze to possibility beyond, we will see abundance in living colour.

Read this part of a poem by John O’Donahue

“. . .This beginning has been quietly forming,

Waiting until you were ready to emerge.

For a long time it has watched your desire,

Feeling the emptiness growing inside you,

Noticing how you willed yourself on,

Still unable to leave what you had outgrown.

It watched you play with the seduction of safety

And the gray promises that sameness whispered,

Heard the waves of turmoil rise and relent,

Wondered would you always live like this.

Then the delight, when your courage kindled,

And out you stepped onto new ground . . .

Though your destination is not yet clear

You can trust the promise of this opening . . .”
